If you made it to our last
clinic, you got to see and hear Akira's latest acoustic and electronic
drumset compositions up close and in person. If you didn't, then you
missed out on some of the fastest and most intricate four-limb independence
to grace West Coast Drum Center. Get on the ball and make it to our
next clinic! (Click on any photo to enlarge--please don't remove our

| Here's Akira's Yamaha Oak Custom
kit in "universal" sizes, featuring his signature beech-shelled
7x13 snare drum and a pair of Alex Acuna signature timbales. Hanging
overhead are a mix of hand-picked Zildjian cymbals, and all over the
kit are Yamaha DTX electronic triggers and pads, driven by a DTXtreme
brain. Akira's sticks are his signature Vic Firth model, and the hardware
is all Yamaha. |

Akira really knows how to
throw a clinic--the atmosphere was both fun and inspiring, and he
wowed the crowd with his amazing real-time-triggering of preprogrammed
phrases. Everything he did was masterfully broken down and demonstrated
to the audience. He took time to answer all questions and provide
tips for every level of drummer. Here he is with WCDC's owner, Darren
Carr. |
